Single-segment speed run of Metroid Prime, done on November 26 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality.
Author's comments: Single segment runs have always interested me. They cause speed runs to be more difficult and suspenseful. Since Metroid Prime also interested me, it seemed like a good idea to combine these two things. Single segment runs hadn't been used much in this game, so I didn't know what to aim for. I decided to follow the multiple segment route and use most of the same tricks, which includes the Thardus dash near the end of the game. It is easily the hardest move to perform throughout the run, and if it is messed up, the run will basically be ruined because the battle with Thardus will start. However, I practiced this trick a lot and became somewhat consistent with it.
Single segment runs will have more mistakes in them than multiple segment runs. Being a perfectionist, it bothers me that there are some rough spots in my run. The biggest of which is that the game refused to give me any more power bomb pick-ups before I reached Phendrana's Edge, so I had to grab the expansion at the top of the room. I know that I'm capable of a time as low as 1:11 if I continue to work at this game. However, I've been speed running Metroid Prime for a while, and I need a break. I am quite happy with this time but it wouldn't surprise me if I tried to improve it in the future.
